Ride into Burlington

Well folks we made it to Burlington!!! Yesterday we spent our rest day in Mississauga. We were accommodated at the beautiful Radisson Plaza hotel on Derry Road. The rooms they provided were absolutely incredible, king size bed, jacuzzi tub, and massage shower. Peel Police hosted an amazing  BBQ fundraiser and raised over $1,000.00. We were also awarded a coin for Outstanding Performance and Excellence by the Deputy Chief. We were both surprised and honoured to receive the coin. We can't thank the Peel Police enough for their support and hospitality. A big thanks to Pam Parkins for all your hard work. Awesome job!!!!!

Today we cycled to MEC in Burlington. We departed from the Peel Police Station on Derry Road and 6 members of their Cycling club joined us for our ride and we also got a police escort through the City which made fighting traffic very easy.  We arrived at MEC at noon and were greeted by our family. It was great to see them!!!! And tonight we get to sleep in our own beds!!!!

Our ride will officially come to a conclusion this Sun at Pier 4, Hamilton. We will be crossing the finish line at 9:30 am.  and the JDRF National walk will begin at 10am. We look forward to seeing you all at the finish line. Thanks so much for your continued support.

If anyone is interested in cycling the last leg of the ride with us we will be departing Mountain Equipment Co-Op in Burlington at 8am.

In Mississauga... 2 rides until were done!!!

We are 3 days away from OUR dream... if you have committed to being a part of our team this year... THANK YOU! If you are on the fence please watch this video... it is my inspiration!  Please take a look!

We cross the finish line this Sunday at Pier 4 Park at 9:30am, and we are hoping that you will come out to join us at the National Walk following this at 10am.  A lot of people have worked hard to make this dream of crossing Canada come true... so we could ultimately chase the bigger dream, of finding a cure for diabetes!
See you all soon

Nearing the End!!!!!!

Hello to all our followers!!! Sorry we haven't blogged in a few days but unfortunately we couldn't connect to an Internet connection.

So you ask where are we now...well we have arrived in Parry Sound!!!! We are so close to home I can taste it. We are looking forward to being back home and celebrate the success of the ride with our family and friends. We couldn't have accomplished this ride without the support of everyone, from our family, friends, co-workers, other police services, and complete strangers. From the bottom of our hearts thank you so much!!!!!

So whats left? Well, tomorrow we cycle into Mississauga and get to enjoy a rest day on Thurs. Peel Police is hosting a fundraiser for us and then back on the road Fri and cycle to Burlington.

I'm so excited to see everyone at the finish line...its like an early Christmas :)

Yesterday we learned that one of our friends and co-worker, Sarah McGregor, was injured during a cross fit competition. Sarah we are thinking of you and wish you a speedy recovery :)

Day 24 - Marathon to Wawa

Another day down... 4 ride days till we hit our Peel fundraiser next Thursday the 9th... today we can honestly say that it was the nicest day of our ride... weather was the hottest it has been so far and very little head winds... weird when we got into Wawa it dropped about 20 degrees and we hit a wall of fog!

Tomorrow we are gearing up for our toughest Ontario day yet... 225 kms to the Soo... and it's all hills:-(... nothing we can't manage tho... hitting the road early... hoping to watch the entire hockey game tonight but we are all likely to fall asleep...

Hoping some of the crew will be able to make it out to Peel next Thursday... better yet we are hoping to get people out to the walk which is a week from tomorrow... please join us by registering at;

http://jdrfca.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.eventDetails&eventID=991

We cross the finish line at 930 sharp and the walk starts at 10am...

Hope to see you out there

Regards

Day 22 & 23

Sorry we didn't blog yesterday folks. But we are in northern Ontario and are kinda secluded in some areas, so that means no Internet connection.

We spent yesterday evening in the cute small town of Red Rock, and spent the night in a beautiful Inn. Our rooms were very cozy. Jim woke up this morning feeling like he actually spent the night at home. We were all woken up in the middle of the night due to the loud thunderstorm. Once morning rolled around the weather did not improve. The sky's were grey and the winds were blowing. As we embarked on our ride to Marathon we were met with huge hills to climb and at times rain. We are starting to really dislike northern Ontario.

Five more days of riding until our Peel Fundraiser on June 9th at 180 Derry Road. So if your in the area stop by. It will be great to see some familiar faces...so that means you Brien Smyth :)

Day 20 & 21

Yesterday was another tough and long ride. We cycled 244 kms and arrived in Thunder Bay. The sun was shinning but we are still fighting with the head wind. I cant begin to describe how frustrating the wind can be. It takes us double the time to do our ride because of the wind. It just smacks you right in the face. We are all praying the wind changes direction real soon...like by tomorrow morning would be nice:)

Today is our last official rest day before we arrive in Mississauga on June 8th. Pete's wife, Cheri, and their two kids, flew into Thunder Bay to join us for the rest of our adventure.

We spent the afternoon at the Thunder Bay Police Service. They were gracious enough to host a BBQ fundraiser for us. The turn out was just incredible. We cant begin to thank the Thunder Bay Police Service enough for organizing such a superb event. It was heart warming to see how much they cared and welcomed us into their community. The fundraiser raised just over $1,000. Thank you so much for helping us reach our goal.

Day 19 - Kenora to Ignace

Today... a bike was thrown!  High head winds, driving rain, terrible shoulders and a near miss collision with an RV were all contributing factors... the bike sustained no injuries and luckily neither did my face... all in all though another day down in northern Ontario... can't slow down to less than 15kms an hour or you will get attacked by swarms of mosquitos or black flies... other than that Ignace is quaint... on to Tbay tomorrow with our last real rest day and a planned BBQ fundraiser with the Tbay PD... looking forward to another rest day... quads are killing us!

Later
